2022 has been a great year creatively & I am very proud to be exhibiting this body of work.
As you may have gathered by now- I am inspired by the contrast between light & shadow & aim to portray this in every artwork.
My zebra painting (Where stripes & reflected sky meet)
The leopard painting (A cautious drink)
The two lion cubs (Cub hug)
The lion walking towards the onlooker (Eye contact)
The buffalo painting (An unpredictable force) all show this contrast between light & dark strongly.

Look out for 2 of ILSE’s Original Paintings in the Auction catalogue:
Donations & auctions in different forms are held every day & evening during the convention. This is one of the most important ways the DSC generates income to fund the multitude of conservation & education causes they run & support throughout the year.
Each year ILSE donates one or two original artworks to be auctioned off during one or more of these events.
The first being a beautiful, large painting of the Supertusker – Craig.
The iconic bull elephant, Craig, is a super tusker & one of the last rare relics of an era long forgotten. Decades ago these formidable giants roamed East, Central & Southern Africa, but their numbers have dwindled so dramatically over the years that those few remaining are now only found in protected areas like Tsavo Trust in Kenya’s Amboseli National Park.
As an artist I longed to capture the magnitude & magnificence of one of these super tuskers on canvas & decided on Craig.
Craig is around 50 years of age & is known as the gentle giant of the Amboseli. The unique curve & size of his tusks not only makes him recognizable but also earmarks him as a super tusker seeing that they both weigh well over 100pounds each!

The second painting is one of a male lion drinking water.
Having the privilege to witness a large male lion quenching his thirst is an amazing sight & one worth capturing on canvas. Even in this moment where he is intent on drinking, the pure strength of this animal is unmistakable. I especially enjoyed painting the wet dripping hair of his mane. This painting will be auctioned off during the Life Member Breakfast Live Auction- (Saturday 7 January).
